The Aka-Tamenuri pen gets its name from “Aka,” meaning red, and “Tame,” meaning lake. It’s coated with a lacquer that resembles lake water flowing over the pen’s surface. The color shifts with lighting: appearing deep purple-red in shadow, glowing red under soft light, and turning blood-red in direct illumination.
This mesmerizing effect is achieved by layering transparent and colored urushi lacquers—much like how lake water reflects varying hues depending on sunlight and depth.
This particular MB146/149 model features a surface adorned with traditional Aka-Tamenuri techniques, while the top logo is enhanced with Raden inlay for a luminous finish.
