The process of making Green Gem Sand starts like most lacquerware: by coating the pen’s surface with urushi. Then, silver powder is sprinkled on top to create a metallic silver sheen. A layer of transparent green urushi is applied over that, and the process is repeated several times. The result is a captivating green luster.
This technique can also be used with other colored lacquers, and the depth of polishing can be controlled to either reveal or conceal the silver powder layer.
