Sands of Time - Desert Ironwood Fountain Pen Barrel

As a craftsman, few materials captivate me quite like Desert Ironwood. Native to the sun-drenched landscapes of the Sonoran Desert, this wood is as rare as it is beautiful. Its name, "Ironwood," comes from its remarkable density and strength—so heavy that it sinks in water. But it's not just the toughness that makes it special; it's the story the wood tells through its grain, the deep, swirling patterns that evoke the timeless passage of sand through an hourglass.

Our Sands of Time fountain pen barrel is meticulously handcrafted from this extraordinary wood. Each piece is unique, polished to a natural luster that reveals the rich, intricate grain. The wood's natural stability ensures that your pen will age gracefully, becoming a cherished companion over the years.

Working with Desert Ironwood is no easy task. Its hardness resists mass production, which is why each Sands of Time pen barrel is a labor of love, made in small batches with the utmost care. For those who appreciate the craftsmanship behind a fine writing instrument, this is more than just a pen—it's a piece of art, a connection to the rugged beauty of the desert, and a testament to the enduring appeal of nature's finest materials.

Each pen is individually turned from a single piece of natural wood, ensuring that no two pens have identical grain patterns. This unique characteristic makes every Sands of Time pen a one-of-a-kind creation. Before shipping, we will photograph your pen and send you the images for your approval.

Capped Length: 6.4 inches (16 cm)
Uncapped Length with Nib Installed: 5.5 inches
Uncapped Length without Nib: 4.5 inches

Please note that while there is no functional difference between the wooden-bodied King of Pen (KOP) and the wooden-bodied 21K, the former is larger in size. This requires the use of older and larger desert ironwood as raw material for crafting, thus resulting in a higher price.
